Sahal
ساهل
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Sahal ساهل by SNX
A rhythmic Arabic track in a Moroccan and Egyptian mix whose refrain says that nothing is easy. Even the sun comes up behind clouds, the grass is dry from drought, and a green land has no grass left, all of it red. Still, he says, thank God in every case, everything comes from the sky, and the main thing is that God sees our situation. Then the voice shifts into a spoken passage about Agadir: an old trading town where caravans from the far west met caravans from the Sahara, with a shore that gave sardines, and the sea is still there. He ends with a few lines about a rapper who writes no complicated words but earns respect by saying plain things plainly.
Deeper meaning
Two ideas sit side by side. One is a shrug of acceptance, that life is hard and that is how it is. The other is pride in a place and in plain speech. The Agadir passage turns the complaint into a sense of belonging, and the simple-words line seems to describe the song's own style.
