An Egyptian-dialect waiting song. The refrain is a single plea: I am waiting for you, my love, why are you away from me, why are you not with me? Verses add that the absence has gone on too long, that he does not understand why the beloved is hidden from him, and that he is waiting all the same. The nights bring no sleep. Day and night have stopped showing their faces. He ends by addressing the beloved as the one who forgot that someone is still waiting.
