Heet Bdaat

A bilingual autobiographical piece, English and Arabic, called "where I began". The speaker says he does not do this for something, and that if he did it would have been different. If only they would listen, they would know. Time is passing as the desert swallows it, things fall into his eyes and veins, he can see them but he is not there. He says he would die for his eyes, and that many voices talk about him, faces smile at him and eyes challenge him. He feels a shiver outside his body. He remembers the table and the brown chair, and says they are still watching him. He recalls how he got here, in his grandmother's basement near his birthplace, when everything was at the beginning. He walked out of the stage, left it, and fell from its edge, which is where he started.
