From the song
Aref عارف by SNX
A Moroccan, Egyptian and English song built on the word "knowing". The first part is a playful chant, asking whether you really know, and answering again and again that you do. A short stretch in the middle tells someone to answer him, to stay in his mind and his nights, and to say what is really going on. Then the language switches to English and he asks whether she loves him, says he only wants her to be his fantasy, and asks her to tell him she knows that he loves her. The last verse in Egyptian Arabic is the most direct. He knows it was not easy on her, but he had to leave to live what came after. He wishes time had a road that did not make him run from her. It is out of his hands now. He knows she is still waiting, and wishes he had not gone.
Deeper meaning
"Knowing" carries the whole song. At first it is a taunt, a flirtatious "you know exactly what you do to me". By the end it is regret: he knows what leaving cost her and he knows she waits. The three languages show three moods, the street, the fantasy and the confession.
