Ya Donya

The title means "oh, world." A sung reproach to life itself, with a long melodic refrain ("oh melody") over Egyptian lines. Oh world, my passion for you holds both pleasure and pain. Let the river run to the sea and let love run in your blood; the moon rises with me. He can tell her a secret, but if she loves him she should not leave him: please do not leave me. The sky is not the same sky, the world is not the same world, and you are not the same person. The ending is a long, almost wordless chorus of "why, world, why are you doing this to me," built from repeating the question until it becomes a chant.
