Ya Benti
يا بنتي
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Ya Benti يا بنتي by SNX
A father's song to his daughter, in Moroccan Darija. He calls her the soul of his heart and keeps saying "my daughter" until the phrase becomes a melody. He tells her that her brothers, her cousins on both sides, her uncles and everyone who loves her all want good for her, and that everything around her wishes her well. God gave her beauty, good character and culture. Between the verses a playful line asks whether he is playing a game with her, then he laughs it off. The song ends in a spoken prayer: may God protect all our daughters and light their paths.
Deeper meaning
This is a blessing and not a love song. The family is named one relative at a time, as a circle around her, and the point is that she is not alone. The closing prayer widens it from one daughter to all of them. It sits beside the other tender songs on the channel as a rare one about parental love.
