Whisper

A song of love held in silence. He walks alone, silence is the guest in the room, and he counts his breaths. He searches for her trace, and her imagined presence falls like rain on an ache. Every time he tries to forget her, longing returns and reaches out. Her name rests on his lips unsaid. He asks that it stay a whisper, shared only between eyes, so quiet that even wishes hear nothing and the silence keeps them gently. He wishes she could see how a lonely room waits and watches the shadow of the road she took; he talks about her with his own soul as much as he can, and the small details return to him each time as if it were the first. If she only knew how he follows her footsteps, even the air changes when it passes her way. Perhaps his soul will come to be the space between them, and some words stay the same unspoken.
