An Egyptian lament about a loss with no reason given. I need you to live, he says, though in the end there was nothing between us, only a beautiful dream that is over once the two words were spoken. Which of us could choose to lose the other? It was he who wanted to lose me, and who would not speak or tell me anything, and so I ask him why, for no reason at all. Why do you think, why do you plan, why do you waste time and keep thinking, for no reason? The refrain is the unanswered question. The ending is an admission that he cannot live with anyone else, and that without him he is not even himself.
