حبّوني
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Habbouni حبّوني by SNX
The title means "love me." A Moroccan Darija ballad of a man who feels misunderstood. He walks alone through his troubles, a heavy tread in the night, and everything is too little, even the bed. In his country, he says, there are people who hide the truth, and he never wished harm to anyone. His children rejected him and his forgiving heart was wounded by people; the love he carries will fade. They fear him at home and speak about him with cruel words, though he has never caused any harm. Whatever the reason, from today he will live as he is. Please, he says, love me. The last line wishes God to give the one who brought him dearness a share of tenderness.
Deeper meaning
A plea for acceptance from a person branded as dangerous or difficult, with family hurt at the centre. Few songs in the catalogue are this exposed. The lines about children and home mean it should be handled with care if it is ever presented as the artist's own story.
