Ghayab
غياب
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Ghayab غياب by SNX
A plea in plain Arabic: tell me you are fine now. The singer speaks of how it feels to be present while the other is absent, and the sentence about being here while you are gone returns again and again, like a heartbeat. In the middle the voice steps out of the song and speaks directly. It says this stretch of time is not short, it is long, and it hopes for a solution at the end, so that everyone can go back to their homes, back to their countries, and back to their ordinary human lives.
Deeper meaning
On the surface this is a love song about absence. The spoken middle turns it into something wider: displacement, exile, families scattered by events they did not choose. The same refrain then fits both a lover and a homeland. The hope in the plea is modest and human, to be safe and to go home.
