Bikhair
بخير
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Bikhair بخير by SNX
The title means "fine." It is a song about the lie in "I'm fine," told in formal Arabic and then in Egyptian. The speaker has not seen her for a long time but hears from her: fine, fine, I'm fine. He goes to the shore and stands with his back to the sea, which tells him of longing, birds fly over a sad heart, trees lean toward him, the sun and moon feel it too. Then the answer in dialect: how can you say you are fine when I am dying? He swears he sees her from afar for days, and when he is with her he forgets everything. He asks only that she stay beside him, and says enough, what happened happened. The last section turns to her voice: the one who thought of me, did anyone deserve what he did for them, I am no longer in it, no longer with you, I am not waiting.
Deeper meaning
Two people both saying "fine" and both not. It is the love-song twin of Hiding Pain with a Smile and Badhak Dhahka, and the poem is in the push-pull between his longing and her cold final lines.
