Ashiq

A Moroccan dance song that defines the lover through the body. The eye we see with, the lip we speak with, the ear we hear with, and the road we walk on: in all of them he finds only her, and nothing else. Days grow long without her. He calls himself a lover who is poor in longing, bare of the farewell. Then the complaint in Moroccan Arabic: so many people walked away and left him alone in the house, and his heart gave him nothing for it. A wordless la-la run carries the tune between the verses.
