Al Shams
الشمس
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Al Shams الشمس by SNX
She is the sun: her face, her white dress, her lips, her touch, her hand. He knows he will burn, he knows he will drown, and he comes closer anyway, more and more. She melts like honey. He says he is rebellious about patience, about being with friends, about his own selfishness, but in love he changes. The Egyptian verses add that he sees her as the sun among the stars, that he wishes he were in her orbit, forgot about the moon until one night she appeared like a full one; he tries to be sincere so he may speak to her; either it stays like this or he leaves her to someone else, and the moon stays forever.
Deeper meaning
The moth-and-flame image: desire that knows it will be harmed and chooses it. Sun and moon work as both love language and a joke about being outshone.
