Al Helm
الحُلمَ
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Al Helm الحُلمَ by SNX
A dreamy Arabic track set in a quiet, beautiful city with a purpose. He is waiting for her on its shore, on the condition that they stay alive to each other. He asks to be reminded of old days, saying regret and sorrow are no use and that even his worries are made light by love and memory. The chorus is a wish: this is my dream when I close my eyes, if only it were real, because reality hurts. Then comes an Egyptian passage with small, tender details. A cup of lemon on the stairs below her eyes, the sun on her shoulders from the garden outside her house, and a plea that they do not need to leave yet, and that she be left as she is, with nothing in her changed. Whoever dreams, the line says, leaves something behind.
Deeper meaning
The song sets a dream beside a harder truth, and the dream is made of very ordinary things like lemon and a staircase. The last line suggests that dreaming has a price. The wish that nothing in her changes is the clearest feeling: the dreamer wants the moment kept exactly as it is.
