Al Bakht

An Egyptian song of steady, hopeful love. I see you in front of me, he says, your cheeks flushed and your smile always at peace, your hand in mine, and dreams carried in our hands. You look just the same, and I have been taken up with you for years. Why do you get upset when something happens? Your mind is steady, it does not bend or tilt, and everyone around you sees how fitting you are. Luck is not what it was, but love stays to the end. Maybe tomorrow luck will show us the way out and bring us back to the place where it began, to nights of love as new as the first rose he gave her on a feast day. And if the world calls you, come back without wounds, and you will find guidance, and luck will be in your hand. We are waiting at the door of hope, gently.
