Al-Ajras
الأجراس
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Al-Ajras الأجراس by SNX
A Levantine memory-song, named for the bells. Worries creep like snakes across the desert. Rain falls on the mountains of bells. When the bells rang, in our night, with our stories, we were playing under the rain, and my mother was screaming, calling me in. The time is late and the night is long. The bell sound returns as the refrain, and in the middle a voice pleads that it is not by choice, like snakes in the deserts.
Deeper meaning
The song sets a child's picture, playing in the rain with his mother calling, against an adult's dread. The bells ring in both. It reads as nostalgia that has been darkened by what came after, and the snakes in the desert are what the worries have become.
