Le Mar Le
لي مار لي
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Le Mar Le لي مار لي by SNX
A three-region mix, which is why the track is called Afro Indian. It opens with a list of Moroccan cities, Fes, Laayoune, Tangier, Tetouan, and a refrain saying that he wants something, anything. English lines about not feeling right in this place and putting his heart on the line cut in, and a snippet in Bengali. The core passage is in formal Arabic and defines the lover through the body: the eye we see with, the lip we speak with, the ear we hear with, and the place we walk in, all of it you. Then the voice returns to Moroccan Arabic and complains that many people walked away and left him alone in the house, and that his heart gave him nothing.
Deeper meaning
The body-parts passage is the poem in the song. It says the beloved is not an object of the senses but the senses themselves. The contrast with the final complaint is sharp: the one who is everything is also the one who is absent. The multilingual mix underlines that the feeling is not tied to one place.
