La Takdhubi

A formal Arabic poem of confrontation. The speaker says do not lie, I saw you, so stop crying, for I have come to hate tears. Tears from a deceitful eye are not worth anything, so let her deny it or claim whatever she likes. He saw her and he heard her. He saw her eyes in his eyes, her lips by his lips, her hands in his hands, her feet beside his. Even as she pleaded, she was trembling with longing for him, hiding the desire in silence.
