Book 07 · Dance Floor HeartDabka
دبكة
Poems inspired by SNX's songs, retold by AIA Labs.
From the song
Dabka دبكة by SNX
A Levantine party piece named for the line dance. We are always ready, and we are dancing. The beat of our hearts is the dabka of the night. Your eyes, handsome one, lost us and drove us mad. All is well here, the boys of the neighbourhood are up all night with you, and the pulse of our hearts keeps stamping the floor, night after night.
Deeper meaning
The dabka is danced shoulder to shoulder, so the song makes a heartbeat into a community. The beloved's eyes are the cause, but the celebration belongs to the whole street. Of the recent songs, this one is the most communal.
